ECE and I-CPIE Host Dr. Husheng Li from the University of Tennessee

Lehigh University’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Institute for Cyber Physical Infrastructure & Energy (I-CPIE) recently hosted Dr. Husheng Li from the University of Tennessee for a research seminar about cyber physical systems. Dr. Li is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research focuses on statistical signal processing, wireless communications, networking, and smart grid and game theory. Dr. Li’s talk, Information for Control and Sensing in Cyber Physical Systems: From Maxwell’s Demon to Millimeter Wave, discussed the efficiency and gleaning of information in cyber physical systems.

Dr. Li’s visit was coordinated by Dr. Rick Blum, I-CPIE faculty and Robert W. Wieseman Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Dr. Blum gave a talk last year at the University of Tennessee while in town to present a plenary talk at a Department of Energy workshop, held just two blocks from the University. Dr. Blum and Dr. Li are in the “same academic tree,” their advisors had the same advisor, John Thomas.

In addition to its close proximity to a Department of Energy laboratory, the University of Tennessee also has a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center on Electric Energy Transmission Networks.  Speaking to how Dr. Li can help Lehigh faculty make connections, Dr. Blum noted that, “since this is an area of interest at Lehigh, many Lehigh faculty can collaborate with many faculty at Tennessee.”  Prior to the seminar, Dr. Li spent time meeting individually with ECE and I-CPIE faculty.
